Government Comms Plan

Cabinet Office

The challenge

In a challenging situation with the UK recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic, the Cabinet Office asked us to create a booklet which would set the direction for the government’s communications priorities over the next year. The booklet had to be vibrant, future-facing and convey a sense of solidarity with the public.

Our solution

With the Prime Minister’s mission of ‘Build Back Better’ in mind, we created stacked geometric shapes in a wall-like pattern to represent strength and unity. A combination of vibrant colours and photography from the department provides a striking template for the government to present its future ambitions.

Heat and Buildings Strategy

Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy

The challenge

The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) tasked us with creating a command paper to house the government’s new Heat and Buildings Strategy. With vital information on energy efficiency, new technologies and climate change, the report had to be public-facing, relatively jargon free, and present the data in an engaging way.

Our solution

We worked with analysts to fully understand national data, and by developing strong graphics and easily recognisable charts and graphs, we were able to present a significant amount of information in a way which is understood by all. Pairing photography from across the UK energy sector with the colourful BEIS branding gives the paper a glossy finish in both print and digital.

Development Matters Report

Department for Education

The challenge

The Department for Education asked us to create a refined web-only version of their published Development Matters report, in order to reach a wider audience. The report offers curriculum guidance on how children learn to all practitioners in early years settings. The design style therefore needed to be playful and creative to match the content, while also looking polished and professional.

Our solution

We developed a thoughtful illustrative approach, with different colour crayons representing the distinct curriculum areas in the report. Working collaboratively with the client, we created bespoke illustrations to show a wide range of early years development activities, including more atypical ones such as brushing teeth. The report’s landscape orientation lends itself well to being read on digital screens.

Integrated Review

Cabinet Office

The challenge

We were asked to design the Integrated Review, a high-profile, public-facing report that would be laid in Parliament and reach both a national and international audience. The report needed significant graphic support to illustrate and simplify the complex ideas, and we were working to a tight deadline with personal oversight from the Prime Minister.

Our solution

We created simple graphics, icons and diagrams that are visually engaging and make the content easier to understand. The process involved close collaboration with the Cabinet Office and No.10, and we encouraged straightforward design styles to accommodate the frequent text amends. The result is a clean, professional report appropriate for a high-profile audience.

SIFoCC COVID-19 memorandum

Judicial Office

The challenge

The Standing International Forum of Commercial Courts (SIFoCC) brings the world’s commercial courts together to share ideas and work towards stability and prosperity. We were asked to create event materials for their third meeting, taking place virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The materials needed to have a sleek, modern feel which showcased the forum’s work.

Our solution

We wanted the event materials to be visually engaging and connect all participants working across the globe, so we chose stand-out aerial photography that reflects different regions around the world. The imagery looks contemporary, dynamic and brings a sense of energy to the materials, ensuring they make an impact both online and in print.
